Historic Melaka City, which is Bandaraya Melaka Bersejarah is the capital of the Malaysian state of Melaka. Melaka is the historical state of Malaysia, rich with heritage buildings, ancient landmarks and colonial structures. It was here that colonial forces first made contact with Malaysia, which eventually shaped the country into its current economic and political system. Melaka is a state that is abundantly rich, not just in natural resources but also in history and folklore. It is here in the city of Melaka where the history of Malaysia began. Founded by Parameswara in 1396 who named his sultanate after the "Melaka" tree, Melaka has provided the stage on which the Chinese, Portuguese, Dutch and English played their roles in shaping history
Today, in Malacca, you can still see the imprints of British, Dutch and Portuguese forces left behind in forts, museums, churches and towers. Visit Malacca for the cultural experience of a lifetime. Famous historical sites in the state include the A Famosa, Stadthuys, St. Paul's Church, St. John's Fort, and the Hang Tuah and Hang Jebat mausoleums.
